Product news: Marin Hawk Hill Jr. - Kids are just little adults, too

13 October 2017 by Michael Faiss

Product news: With the Marin Hawk Hill Jr., there will also be a full-suspension bike from the Californian cult manufacturer for the first time in 2018. Technology and equipment like the big ones, the Marin newcomer is also compatible with 24″ and 26″ wheels.

The market for powerful children's MTBs is booming like never before. More and more manufacturers are now also offering kids' fullies - from 2018 also cult manufacturer Marin Bikes, who, with the Hawk Hill Jr., builds on the very well-functioning platform of the adult bike and uses it to construct a children's bike that can also be used with the rider can grow with you.

Marin Hawk Hill Jr.

Plenty of space: There is also room for 26″ wheels in the rear triangle and fork.
Hawk Hill Jr.: The junior version of the adult bike is in no way inferior to this one.
Cables routed completely in the frame, if required also for front derailleur or dropper post.

The Marin Hawk Hill Jr. comes with 24″ wheels and a frame height of 33cm. Thanks to ample tire clearance in the rear triangle and in the fork, 26″ wheels can also be mounted later without any problems. Overall, great importance was attached to building a bike that is not a typical children's bike with MTB genes, but a real, full-grown mountain bike, just one size smaller.

You can see that in the chassis in particular: the fork and damper come from X-Fusion and both rely on an air spring that can be easily adjusted to the weight of the rider. In addition, both offer adjustable rebound and the compression can also be adjusted on the fork to individual needs. There's 120mm of spring travel at the front and rear, which should be more than enough for most trips on routes suitable for children. Disc brakes and thru-axles are also part of the package, as is a fully trail-ready cockpit with 720mm wide handlebars and a short stem.

Thanks to the 76mm bolt circle, SRAM-compatible chainrings can be retrofitted to the crank.
The rear triangle corresponds to the big brother Hawk Hill.

The fully-fledged equipment continues to the wheels, where the 24″ rims come with a generous inner width of 27mm and are even tubeless-compatible. The Shimano Deore 10-speed drive is combined with the in-house crank (arm length 155mm), on which a 30t Narrow Wide chainring ensures a firm hold. On request, however, a traditional 2-speed drive with front derailleur can also be installed. Thanks to the wide range of SunRace cassettes (11-42), this should only be necessary in very few cases.

The Marin Hawk Hill Jr. will be available next spring and will cost €1.599. An extremely fair offer in view of the well thought-out, solid equipment. The bike will be available with purple or blue decals.
