Yamaha PW Series CE: So far the lightest Yamaha drive and new battery

August 31, 2020 by the editorial office

E-Performance: Yamaha is expanding the 2021 e-bike range with its lightest drive unit to date and a particularly practical battery. The new PWseries CE motor impresses with a natural and carefree driving experience, while the External Crossover 500 battery manages to combine high Yamaha reliability with user-friendly handling.

Urban mobility is a key issue for everyone who lives or works in the city. In 2021, Yamaha will launch two new products for the new e-bike generation with the PWseries CE drive unit and the External Crossover 500 battery. With its experience in e-bike technology, Yamaha managed to build its lightest, quietest and most compact drive unit to date. The new External Crossover 500 battery can now also serve as a source of energy for everyday city traffic, giving drivers additional flexibility and responding even better to practical requirements.

Yamaha PW Series CE: Yamaha's lightest, quietest and most compact drive unit

With an output of 250 W and a torque of 50 Nm, the new PW Series CE weighs just 2,9 kg (coaster brake model), making it Yamaha's lightest drive unit to date. Because it is also extremely compact, European e-bike manufacturers can build new frames with an even sportier, slimmer and more distinctive design. A lot has also happened in terms of volume. Yamaha engineers have incorporated many noise-reducing ideas into the PW Series CE, making it the quietest Yamaha drive unit to date.

Yamaha PW Series CE: Relaxed driving thanks to automatic adjustment of motor support

Whether you're commuting into town or taking a leisurely tour across the country, road conditions are constantly changing - sometimes it's constantly uphill and downhill, or traffic lights and intersections slow you down. That's why software controls the Automatic Support Mode in Yamaha's new PW Series CE drive unit. This intelligent system reacts immediately to changing driving conditions and selects the optimal support mode, whether for powerful starts or leisurely cruising. The entire construction of the new PW Series CE aims to provide a more enjoyable e-bike experience. If the bike is pushed, Walk Assist ensures that the drive contributes a well-dosed amount of power. Regardless of the gear selected, this makes it easier to maneuver and to park a bike that needs to be pushed up a slope or that may be heavily loaded.

Yamaha PW Series CE: key features

  • The lightest Yamaha drive unit yet - only 2,9 kg (coaster brake model, non-coaster brake model: 3,0 kg)
  • The quietest Yamaha engine
  • Software-controlled, automatically adapted motor support for a natural driving experience
  • Revised Walk Assist function for easier parking and manoeuvring
  • mid-engine
  • 250W rated power
  • 50 Nm torque
  • Motor support up to 25 km/h

Yamaha External Crossover 500 battery: compact, stylish and practical

Yamaha's wide range of batteries also includes models that can be integrated into the frame, as well as external batteries for customers who are looking for a practical and easy-to-use solution. Yamaha's new External Crossover 500 battery pack can be attached to the down tube or seat tube via an easy-to-use locking system. It is just as easy to detach and then charge or store around the house.

Despite the low weight of only 2,9 kg, the lithium-ion battery (36 V) has an energy content of 500 Wh and is fully charged after around 4 hours. This makes it the ideal power source for the new PWseries CE drive.

External Crossover 500: key features

  • Practical and convenient solution thanks to its compact design and outdoor installation
  • Intuitive locking and unlocking system for easy removal and charging
  • Lithium Ion Battery 36V
  • 500 Wh
  • approx. 4 hours charging time
  • 2,9 kg Weight
