Cycling: Egan Bernal has won the queen stage of the Route d'Occitanie. The Colombian is also close to overall victory.
Bernal before Sivakov: double victory for Ineos
After two stages for the sprinters, today's penultimate stage of the Route d'Occitanie become one for the climbers. After starting in Saint-Gaudens, there was a distance of 163,5 kilometers to the Col de Beyrède. But even before the final climb, the section was not easy. Finally, the Port de Balès and the prestigious Col de Peyresourde had to be climbed on the way. A real affair for the climbers. And British team Ineos proved once again that they were made to do just that. Egan Bernal crossed the finish line first, 10 seconds ahead of teammate Pavel Sivakov
Froome loses more than 5 minutes
Alexander Vlasov (Astana) completes the podium but is already 17 seconds behind the Tour winner. Nevertheless, he showed a strong performance, because after all he was able to position himself in front of numerous well-known professionals. Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ), Build Mollema (Trek - Segafredo), Warren Barguil (Arkea – Samsic), Richie porte (Trek – Segafredo) and Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) followed on the places. Chris Froome was only 34. This made the four-time British Tour de France winner only the fourth best professional in his team Ineos. So Chris Froome avoided the duel against Egan Bernal – or could he just not go faster?
