Ineos: No Tour de France for Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas

August 19, 2020 by Michael Behringer

Froome Thomas Ineos Tour de France

Cycling: This is a real bang! The 2020 Tour de France will take place without Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas. Team Ineos want to bet everything on Egan Bernal.

Froome to the Vuelta & Thomas to the Giro

It has suggested: Chris Froome does not go to Tour. The four-time overall winner was unable to get back into shape in time after his fall at last year's Critérium du Dauphiné. You could see his current performance at the Corona restart on the Route d'Occitanie, the Tour de l'Ain and the Criterium du Dauphine. Chris Froome was really useless neither as a classification driver nor as a precious helper. While even riders like Jonathan Castroviejo – not known as a mountain goat – upped the pace, the 35-year-old Briton was already flying out of the field. And his countryman didn't know how to convince either. Geraint Thomas – Tour winner 2018 – lasted a little longer, but also seems miles away from his best.

Carapaz is Bernal's precious helper

instead of with Egan Bernal, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas To offer a top three, Team Ineos has now decided to put everything on the Colombian winner of the previous year. At 23, Egan Bernal embodies the future of cycling. At the Critérium du Dauphiné he recently had to give up due to back problems. These don't seem too bad, however. He gets an absolute top team at his side – even without Froome and Thomas. Edelhelfer will be Richard Carapaz, who won the Giro d'Italia in 2019.

Ineos' tour line-up:

  • Egan Bernal
  • Richard Carapaz
  • Michal Kwiatkowski
  • Pavel Shivakov
  • Andrew Amador
  • Jonathan Castroviejo
  • Dylan van baarle
  • Luke Rowe
