New race format starts on October 24, 2020: Red Bull Radical

June 9, 2020 by the editorial office

MTB News: The Red Bull Radical Cross Country Race takes XC racing to a new, challenging level. The Radical is aimed more at hobby racers. The 25 km course is peppered with a variety of obstacles that require endurance and, above all, mental ones call for strength. In addition, 600 meters in altitude must be overcome within a given time, partly climbing.

Registration and all details about the Red Bull Radical can be found below in the press release.

Unique backdrop

The scenery at the premiere of the Red Bull Radical could hardly be more spectacular: On October 24, 2020, mountain bikers will start from the bottom of the Oetelshofen quarry near Wuppertal on a circuit that has never existed in this form in Germany. Where normally thousands of tons of limestone are mined and powerful machines are at home, exciting uphill and downhill passages over the up to 30 meter high quarry steps await.

An obstacle course that is second to none

Fast-paced single trails through the adjacent forests as well as carrying and climbing sections through mud, sand and water promise a completely new racing experience. “Red Bull Radical is more than a classic bike race, it is the toughest obstacle race on two wheels. There has never been a track setup like this before,” says the sporting director of the event, Markus Schulte-Lünzum. The two-time German champion makes it clear that the new race format also appeals to non-professionals: "It will be an extremely demanding race but with a high fun factor, a mixture of sporting challenge, adventure and test of will."

A race against the clock

In order to reach the finish before the cut-off time of two hours, the participants have to conquer 25 kilometers and 600 meters in altitude as well as demonstrate mental strength, strength, stamina and technique. And the best thing about it: the course consists of only one long loop. "Each obstacle is only crossed once and a new surprise awaits behind every curve," says Schulte-Lünzum.

Safety for participants has the highest priority

Only the enthusiasm for the revolutionary race format should be contagious at the Red Bull Radical, because the health and safety of the participants have the highest priority. That's why the organizers have developed a strict safety and hygiene concept that guarantees safe and responsible racing even in times of COVID-19. This means, among other things, that you have an overview of the current situation at all times, that you can act flexibly and, if necessary, adjust the course of the event. The safety of the participants always has the highest priority and the organizer therefore reserves the right to switch from a mass start to a start in smaller groups, for example.

Registration information

The participation fee, including the starter bag, is 250 euros for the first 31 registrations (or by June 39). After that, the starting place costs 49 euros. Participation from the age of 18, all mountain bikes with tread tires are allowed.
