Product news: Radon Jealous - jealous looks are guaranteed with this MTB

11 January 2017 by Christian Ettl

Market/Radon Jealous: Radon wants to make people jealous. That could also work very well. With the new hardtail Radon Jealous, the people from Bonn have a hot iron in the fire and a real competition device at the starting line. The Jealous should not only make sense for racers...

The last carbon hardtail from Radon, the Black Sin (translated: black sin) convinced us. Of course, in the fast-paced bike industry, it couldn't last forever. The courses in the World Cup are becoming more and more technical and the demands on the bikes are changing. The Radon Jealous boasts state-of-the-art geometry tailored to these modern courses. But hobby riders also benefit from it, the bike is more fun and playful to ride.

The frame of the Radon Jealous

The bike should be fast and agile, but not only make racing drivers happy, but also brisk tourers. That's why Radon has launched two versions of the Jealous. To make us all doubly jealous. At less than 900 grams, exactly 890 grams in 16″ inches, the top version is very light and consistently designed for one-by drives. So intended for 11 and 12-speed drives without a derailleur. Anyone who has steam in their legs saves even more weight here. The high stiffness value, a full 34% more than its predecessor, should ensure that every pedal pressure reaches the rear wheel and guarantees direct driving behavior. But you didn't just build the frame as hard as a board everywhere according to the motto "more is better". The lower part, from the head tube or the bottom bracket to the dropouts, should absorb or transmit the forces. The upper part, sitting die and co. should provide noticeable comfort. The frame is used in the four top models, the Limited and 9.0SL, as well as the 10.0 and 10.0SL. The five cheaper models have a slightly different carbon layup, which makes the bikes cheaper, and they are also suitable for the attachment of a front derailleur. All Radon Jealous come with Boost, i.e. 148mm installation dimension, at the rear. The use of a telescopic support is also provided, or the frame is prepared for it.

Four sizes are available, 16″, 18″, 20″ and 22″. So most buyers will find something suitable. The geometry will certainly please many and is very modern. The 432,5 mm chainstays in combination with a 69,6 degree steering angle and a long top tube fit into today's world, even in the XC sector it's now: long front and short rear. At a relatively steep 73,6 degrees, the seat tube angle fits well into the picture and the short rear end and, like a short head tube, helps with climbing. The routing is well thought out. The brake is laid on the outside, mechanics will be happy. The gear cable or the cable for a DI2 in the frame; for this there are different sealing caps at the entry and exit points. the cable for a telescopic support comes out of the seat tube, above the bottom bracket, so racers can quickly switch between classic patent support and dropper post. Visually, the bike is also very successful, it has character and is not just any random frame from the Far East. It would be recognized even without the decor, not every manufacturer can say that about their XC hardtail, even if it makes them jealous. The frame should also be durable, it meets the DinPlus standard. It is protected from a falling chain by light aluminum plates in the bottom bracket area.

The models of the Radon Jealous

As mentioned, the four models with the top frame are primarily aimed at racers. But the cheaper models are also very interesting. All models except the LTD use high-quality Syntace handlebars, posts and stems. All bikes except the LTD rely on Conti tires. Here are the most important details about some of the models that we think are particularly interesting:

Radon Jealous 6.0

Comes with a solid Shimano SLX drivetrain with Shimano rear derailleur, a DT Swiss OPM ODL 29 remote fork, DT Swiss X1900 Spline 29 wheels, and a Magura MT4 brake. 10,1 kg for 1999€, let someone try that!

Radon Jealous 9.0 DI2

bounces with a Fox 32 Performance Elite SC Remote Boost fork, rolls on MAVIC Crossmax ELITE 29, the highlight is the complete Shimano XT DI2. Weighs exactly 10,0 kilos and costs €3499. a DI2 cracker!

Radon Jealous 10.0

is the cheapest 12-speed wheel in the range with a Sram XO Eagle group, with DT Swiss XR 1501 Spline One 29 wheels and the eye-catching Rock Shox RS1 Upside Down fork. In addition, Syntace handlebars and posts are also made of carbon fiber. 8,2 kilos for €4299. A visual and technical treat!

Radon Jealous LTD (Limited)

the uncompromising lightweight object. Springs with a FOX 32 Float Factory SC Remote Boost, shifts with a Sram XX1 Eagle. The AX Lightness Ultra Boost carbon wheels with Schwalbe Thunder Burt tires are braked by a Magura MT8. Handlebars, post, stem and saddle come from Tune. 7,35 kilos for €6499, which in fact do not allow any further tuning, more is hardly possible.

Here are two more clips for you that explain the bike from a product management point of view as well as from a pro-racer point of view.
