Product news: Of course, HNF Nicolai would like to continue the previous success story with high-quality e-bikes, especially for urban areas, in 2019; After many innovations in the past year, little has changed in the portfolio, but there are some exciting new additional options for those interested.
HNF Nicolai XD2 Urban 2019
The XD2 Urban presented last year goes into the 2019 season largely unchanged. No wonder, after all, the urban e-bike, which is also available as an S-Pedelec, already has the integrated PowerTube battery from Bosch on board and is therefore state-of-the-art. With its air suspension fork and large-volume 27,5″ tires, certain MTB genes cannot be denied, but the relaxed, sporty geometry and the high-quality equipment package make it the perfect city companion. In addition to the beautifully long Wingee mudguards, this also includes the bright Supernova lighting and the NuVinci gear hub with Gates carbon belts. Thanks to Bosch Performance CX or Performance Speed on the S-Pedelec, things progress quickly even on steep inclines.
Like all bikes in the HNF Nicolai portfolio, the XD2 Urban can also be customized in the shop with various additional options. The options for the manual transmission are particularly exciting here: Retrofitting the Enviolo automatic for the continuously variable NuVinci hub (445 euros) is just as possible as equipping it with the electronic Rohloff E14 hub – for a whopping 1.645 euros. The inherently sporty cockpit with minimalist Purion display can of course also be upgraded with the well-known Intuvia (169 euros) and Nyon (495 euros) displays, and the new Kiox (259 euros) is also available.
The 2019 variant of the HNF Nicolai XD2 Urban will be delivered from the middle/end of March and the basic version will cost 3.999 euros or 4.290 euros (S-Pedelec).

E-bikes: Test: HNF-Nicolai XD2 Urban – An S-Pedelec for commuter use
Test: Our Velomotion test commuter Stefan was allowed to dash 2 km to work and back in the spring months of April and May with the HNF-Nicolai XD20 Urban in unmistakable neon orange for eight weeks in wind and weather. While he could rather let it run downhill on the way there, after work he had to climb 350 meters and the HNF-Nicolai XD2 […]
HNF Nicolai UD1 2019
Step-throughs are conservative? Do they all look the same? Bikes like the HNF Nicolai UD1 show that you can be pretty wrong with such prejudices - upbeat colors, an elaborate hydroforming frame and successful, but not exaggerated system integration make the comfortable city runabout a visual and technical highlight.
As in the entire product range, there are no far-reaching changes for 2019; the battery is also semi-integrated on the massive down tube this year, but thanks to a few design tweaks, this is only noticeable at second glance and even then it isn't bothersome. In everyday life, the external energy storage can then even boast the advantage of being easier to install and remove. The fact that the one without a cavity in the down tube can be more classic, which has a positive effect on the price, will undoubtedly also be appreciated by buyers.
On the HNF Nicolai UD1, too, a Gates carbon belt in combination with the stepless NuVinci N380SE hub ensures smooth and imperceptible shifting. The Enviolo automatic can also be retrofitted as an option (445 euros), frequent drivers will be happy about the Rohloff E14 option (1.645 euros). The electronic tailwind comes from a Bosch Performance motor - if you like to go faster, you can also get the HNF Nicolai step-through S-Pedelec with Performance Speed drive. As a basic variant, the HNF Nicolai UD1 costs 3.790 euros or 4.090 euros (S-Pedelec).

HNF Nicolai MD1 2019
If you like the inner values of the UD1, but don't necessarily want to sit on a step-through frame, you will find the corresponding counterpart with a classic men's frame in the MD1. However, the expression "classic" doesn't really do justice to the special frame shape of the e-bike all-rounder from HNF Nicolai. The low-set, square-edged seat tubes typical of Nicolai, together with the massive head tube and the pleasing kink in the top tube, give the MD1 a striking look.
The external 500Wh Bosch battery sits on the down tube and fits in well with the 90° rotated Bosch motor on the bottom bracket. Speaking of the Bosch motor: With the HNF Nicolai MD1 you have the choice between Performance, Performance CX and also the S-Pedelec drive Performance Speed. The rest of the equipment is the same as that of the UD1: NuVinci N380SE hub with Gates belts, Magura MT4 brakes, Supernova lighting and Continental tires speak for quality. The price of the city runabout starts at 3.790 euros in the basic version with a performance motor, the CX costs 100 euros more, and the S-Pedelec version costs 4.090 euros. Of course, the MD1 also has numerous upgrade options such as automatic gearshift, Rohloff E14, suspension seat post and much more.

HNF Nicolai SD1 Urban 2019
Style, technology and comfort: the visually elegant HNF Nicolai SD1 Urban will go into the next season unchanged. With its slim tubes despite the battery integration, the unobtrusively integrated motor and the raw, brushed aluminum surface, the bike appears elegantly reserved on the one hand, but still magically attracts curious glances. But the optics are not all that is convincing about the SD1: Here, too, you get a virtually maintenance-free belt drive and high-quality components such as Magura brakes and Supernova lighting.
At the heart of the Nicolai urban bike beats the current Bosch Active Line Plus motor, which not only is not inferior to the "big" CX in terms of power, but is also much more compact and audibly quieter. The SD1 Urban is available now and costs 3.590 euros as a basic version.

HNF Nicolai CD1 cargo bike 2019
With its impressive permissible total weight of 280kg with a dead weight of 45kg, the HNF Nicolai Cargobike also enables the transport of heavy goods well over the 100kg limit. However, to ensure that the handling does not suffer too much as with many other cargo bikes, a complex chassis with patented tilting technology is used, which offers a lot of smoothness when cornering even when loaded and reliably prevents the dreaded wobbling. This also reduces the turning circle of the almost 2,30m (size M) long vehicle - an advantage that should not be underestimated, especially in the city on narrow cycle paths.
The design of the loading area was also thought through: An optionally available adapter set (220 euros) enables various Thule child trailers to be attached securely and directly to the bike. The HNF Nicolai ensures that there is always enough power even on longer inclines and when fully loaded CD1 exclusively with the powerful Bosch Performance CX motor. In the basic variant, the small transporter on three wheels comes to 5.795 euros.
HNF Nicolai: On-site testing
Not new, not a bike, but still worth mentioning and a unique selling point of HNF Nicolai is the opportunity to test the desired bike or bikes at home. A phone call is usually enough and in the next few days or weeks - depending on the schedule - an HNF Nicolai employee will come by at home with the desired bikes in the right size. You can have the technology explained to you directly by an expert and also test and compare the bikes on the usual routes.
