Test: With the KTM Revelator Alto Master, the Austrian manufacturer recently presented its latest road bike racing machine. The KTM Revelator Alto Master has a lot in store with a high-quality carbon frame, which is particularly impressive thanks to its innovative frame shape thanks to the integrated saddle clamp, and solid basic equipment.
KTM Revelator Alto Master – The frame
The internal seat clamp has the greatest influence on the frame shape of the KTM Revelator Alto Master, which ensures that the seat post can absorb shocks better and offers greater comfort. In addition, the rounded shape looks quite appealing. Another advantage of this construction is the more compact and stiffer frame triangle. With the integrated rim brakes, which are seamlessly integrated into the chainstay using Direct Mount, the frame offers further appealing advantages. Thanks to the generously dimensioned chainstay, the forces can be better absorbed and the design has a positive effect on the aerodynamics. As a result, the seat stays can also be manufactured continuously and shocks on the rear wheel can be better absorbed. In addition, the chainstay has been manufactured asymmetrically to ensure more rigidity and the best possible use of space.
KTM Revelator Alto Master – The equipment
Of course, a great frame is hardly fun if you don't have the right equipment. But with the KTM Revelator Master you don't need to worry about this either. With a tried-and-tested Shimano Ultegra Di2 gear system, you can shift gears quickly and precisely as usual, and all that with only minor (weight) disadvantages compared to the electronic Dura-Ace top group. The wheels used are the Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels, which are suitable for everyday use. In addition to being a decent weight for aluminum wheels, they also offer comparatively good aerodynamics and can convince with their stability, especially on training rides. The wheels are also fitted with Continental GrandPrix 4000 IIs tires, which are of course among the best in their class. With the add-on parts, such as handlebars, stem and seat post from Ritchey, you complete the rock-solid equipment, which would also be ridden by many professionals on the training bike.
KTM Revelator Alto Master – The Ride
After almost 1000 kilometers with the KTM Revelator Alto Master we think we have learned a lot about the new racing bike from KTM. The light carbon frame convinced us right from the start. Of course, this can play to its strengths especially on the climbs and shows a great performance. But the acceleration is also favored by the low total weight. This is not only due to the weight but also to the top stiffness of the KTM Revelator Alto Master. Especially when starting or accelerating after corners, you can actually feel the good propulsion and have the feeling that the entire force is converted into propulsion. Nevertheless, the carbon frame offers us a decent level of comfort and good handling, which is particularly evident on the descents. In addition, comfort is significantly influenced by the integrated seat clamp, as this allows the seat post to emerge directly from the frame, which means that shocks are absorbed more efficiently. This is not only noticeable when driving over rough asphalt or bad roads, but is also a real advantage when driving on very good roads, as you have fewer seat and back problems, for example, because fewer vibrations are passed on to the body.
The equipment of the KTM Revelator Alto Master is also a lot of fun: the electronic Ultegra gearshift offers the usual good performance and works perfectly. A real highlight are the direct-mount brakes, as they simply pull incredibly well and allow good metering. To be honest, we wouldn't have thought it that way at first, since the rear brake is attached to the chainstays due to its changed position, which changes the pressure point and also the cable routing is designed differently. In this case, thumbs up indeed. However, it should be noted that the rear brake is a little more difficult to reach due to its hidden position in the event of a defect or during maintenance, which of course is less pleasant in this case.
The Mavic wheels are very solid and fit well into the overall concept. If you want to pimp your bike a bit or even want to have a real competition machine, you should think about the right wheels. Nevertheless, in our opinion, good all-round wheels that look good on any terrain. The Continental Grand Prix 4000 also fit in well. The KTM Revelator Alto Master is rounded off by components from Ritchey, which, with their low weight and good stability, also offer a decent level of comfort and have proven themselves on various trips. Even the initially somewhat unfamiliar Fizik saddle, which has a cut-out in the middle, was able to convince over time.
