MyVelo Verona under test: Sporty racer from the Black Forest

4 May 2023 by Florian Nowak

Test: What started back then with e-folding bikes is no longer limited to this niche. Because the German manufacturer from the Black Forest was able to continuously expand its product range and meanwhile, in addition to the motorized folding bikes, it also has e-mountain bikes, e-trekking bikes and, brand new, sporty drop bar models in its portfolio. The founders of the still young brand from the Black Forest were both active as racing cyclists and are now bringing their experience of thousands of kilometers by bike to the brand. So it's no wonder that you now want to get started in this segment with two racing bike models and a gravel bike. We had the opportunity to test the fast MyVelo Verona in detail.

MyVelo Verona

Many racing bike lovers may not have heard of MyVelo yet. This is not least due to the fact that the manufacturer from the Black Forest has only recently started with its sporty models. Nevertheless, the high quality and design standards of the manufacturer, which one is used to from their e-bikes, are evident at first glance.

Testing the MyVelo Verona

MyVelo Verona

Even at first glance you can see from the MyVelo Verona how seriously the manufacturer takes high quality, because not only does the frame convey a high-quality feeling, but the equipment is also impressive.

The frame set is complemented by an in-house seat post and cockpit. These are not only matched to the frame, but also offer a clean look. Because the cockpit in particular ensures a tidy front, so that no trains or cables can be seen, which, in addition to the optical wow factor, also has aerodynamic advantages.

The latest Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 shifting group with 2×12 gears delivers the best "semi-wireless" shifting pleasure and stands for first-class high-end performance. Lightweight wheels have stood for German craftsmanship and lightweight riding fun for ages. In combination with the aerodynamically optimized and yet light Verona carbon frame, this setup offers an all-round brisk overall package at just 6,9 kilos (without pedals and bottle cage).

Low weight

The low weight adds additional sportiness to the already sporty overall appearance of the MyVelo Renner. The Verona knows exactly what it has to do when climbing and on short, steep climbs and can be pedaled up easily. Due to the aerodynamic seating position and the corresponding tube shapes, you can also step on the gas on fast sections.

Unfortunately, you have to make a few compromises when it comes to handling, because while you can actually benefit from the good comfort, the Verona is very direct and demands a lot from its pilot, especially on faster technical descents. Here you should first familiarize yourself with the racer and not take too many risks right away, since the MyVelo is also very sporty here and not very forgiving.

MyVelo Verona

You can tell that real racing cyclists who didn't want to make any compromises were at work in the development and equipment of the MyVelo Verona. This is certainly not least due to the sporting past of the founders.

Equip MyVelo Verona individually

The MyVelo Verona racing bike is also available as a frame set and is therefore ideal for anyone who wants to customize and optimize their racing bike. The frame set is available in different sizes and can be adapted to individual needs with the right wheels, saddle and other equipment. In addition, you also have the option of choosing a few variants on the website and thus equipping the complete bike according to your own ideas.
