cycling: Tour du Haut Var #2: Hivert blocks all attacks and wins again

18. February 2018 by Michael Behringer

Hivert Tour du Haut Var

Cycling: That's called sovereign. Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energie) also won stage two of the Tour du Haut Var. Of course, this also secured him overall victory. In an exciting and very offensive race, he left his compatriots Alexis Vuillermoz (AG2R La Mondiale) and Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) behind.

2 x 4 = no chance

The second and final stage of the Tour du Haut Var took the riders over 188,5 kilometers from Vidauban to Flayosc. On the very wavy profile joined in Benoit Jarrier (Fortuneo Samsic), Jeremy Lecroq (Vital Concept) Evaldas Siskevicius (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) and Fernando Barcelona (Euskadi Basque Country Murias) four runaways on the run. 28 kilometers from the finish, however, this attempt was already history and the race practically started all over again. This time, too, broke up with the French Julien Antomarchi (Roubaix Lille Metropole), Julien El Fares (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) and Axel Domont (AG2R La Mondiale), as well as the Ukrainian Andriy Grivko (Astana) four riders. But again the peloton was vigilant and leveled the situation before the decisive attack came.

Hivert clears everything

Nachdem Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energy) yesterday the first stage of the Tour du Haut Var was able to win with a one-second lead, the Frenchman started the second and final stage from a very good starting position. When there were only 20 kilometers to go, the Groupama-FDJ team attacked with three professionals. Next to Thibaut Pinot, Rudy Molard and Valentin Madouas sat down too Alexis Vuillermoz (AG2R La Mondiale), Mauro Finetto (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) and the overall leader Jonathan Hivert away. On this wavy profile, the attack of such strong riders should be more than a preliminary decision. Although the Groupama-FDJ team tried everything and there were also attacks from Alexis Vuillermoz and Mauro Finetto, Jonathan Hivert was able to prevail again in the end. So he also won the second stage and of course he also deserved the overall ranking of the Tour du Haut Var.
