Cycling: The German Road Cycling Championships will take place on July 1, 2018 in Einhausen on a twelve-kilometer circuit. Yesterday, Mayor Helmut Glanzner and organizer Algis Oleknavicius announced in a press conference that the profile will accommodate the sprinters.
Einhausen celebrates cycling and its 1.250th anniversary
It is not the first time that the small Hessian municipality of Einhausen has been the focus of cycling. The coveted jersey was already being contested here in 2015. In 2018, Einhausen is not only celebrating cycling, but also its 1.250th anniversary. According to current plans, the German Championships will open on Friday, June 29th on the same circuit as in 2015. On Sunday, the elite men will drive over 204 kilometers "Around the Jägersburg Forest" the coveted German championship jersey.
Helmut Glanzner:
“We have proven many times that we can do cycling. Not only did we master the German individual time trial championships in 2015, Einhausen was also our home for many previous races.”
Algis Oleknavicius:
"This bike course is made for a German championship."
Greipel for the fourth?
Not surprisingly, the sprinters will once again fight for the German championship title in Einhausen on July 1st. The favorites include André Greipel (Lotto Soudal), Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) and John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo), as well as Phil Bauhaus and Nikias Arndt (Sunweb). It's hard to believe that Greipel could already secure his fourth title while all the other sprint aces mentioned are still waiting for their first black, red and gold jersey.

Cheap championships
In any case, Patrik Moster, the sports director of the BDR, is happy that a venue for the German championships could still be found. BDR General Secretary Martin Wolf is enthusiastic about the area.
Patrick Moster:
"Of course the fast drivers were also happy when they heard that there will be a flat circuit at these championships."
Martin Wolf:
“The region is simply made for cycling, and it seems quite likely that the Deutschland Tour will also stop in Lorsch. Above all, the economic concept of Algis Oleknavicius convinced us, because these championships are significantly cheaper than, for example, in Chemnitz, where the end result was 750.000 euros.”
Algis Oleknavicius:
"These will be the cheapest championships in recent decades."
