Test: The Smith Pivlock Asana tries to pick up on many of the current eyewear trends. The rimless design, a well tinted lens, a light frame and a fairly decent packaging come with the glasses. Unfortunately, the good intentions fail because of the extremely unusual and often unsuitable shape, with which individual adjustment options cannot save much.
Smith Pivlock Asana - Glass
The heart of glasses is the glass. Here Smith comes with a lens that is well tinted by default, but it is not 100% convincing, as we had the feeling that the contours often blurred or even disappeared. Of course, this also has something to do with the different lighting conditions, as well as light and shade influences, but it shouldn’t happen with high-quality performance glasses. The large field of vision and the good ventilation of the glasses are quite successful. The compact, frameless design is primarily responsible for this. Unfortunately, the glasses are much too small for our taste, so that the wind catches underneath on faster descents and can cause watery eyes. The same applies to splash water and dirt, which can get into your eyes. However, we did not notice any glasses that fogged up faster than average during our test.
Smith Pivlock Asana - Fit
If we're already talking about the frameless design, it's clear that we also have to talk about the fit. The frame plays an important role here. Unfortunately, neither the shape nor the materials used are convincing. The rather inflexible temples are uncomfortable and at the same time too loose on the head. On the other hand, the 2-way adjustable nose pad is quite good, which holds well and doesn't rub - but it can't change anything about the otherwise rather below-average fit.
Smith Pivlock Asana - Packaging & Accessories
The hard shell case from Smith makes a very good impression, is stable and also offers space for a pair of replacement lenses and the microfibre cloth supplied.
