Market / racing bike / CX: As part of its RoadRevoliton18 model series, DT Swiss presented special wheel sets for cyclocross, gravel, all-terrain or whatever you like to call the border area between road and MTB at the Eurobike - DT Swiss is talking about cross-road here, by the way. There will be two wheel sets at the start of the new category: the CR 1600 Spline and the C 1800 Spline.
After being traditionally broad and well positioned in the MTB sector at DT Swiss and having been able to keep up in the high-performance sector in the road sector for several years, the new Allroad wheelsets are breaking new ground. These are the first dedicated wheels for cyclocross and gravel: wider rims, more robust construction with the usual good quality and at an overall very attractive price. For next year, high-end wheelsets with carbon rims are also planned for this sector - but in 2018 there will initially only be aluminum.
The DT Swiss CR 1600 Spline costs €578 and weighs 1.728g (791g VR / 937g RW). The aluminum rim is 23mm high and has an inner width of 22mm. The wheelset is only available as a version for disc brakes and as a clincher - like the entire road portfolio from DT Swiss - all tubular variants for asphalt will be removed from the range in 2018. In the future, people firmly believe in tubeless technology, also on the road. But back to the CR 1600 Spline: The hubs are based on the well-known 350s with toothed disc freewheel and thus offer a successful combination of low maintenance and durability.
The slightly cheaper option goes by the name of C 1800 Spline and at €408 is in a really affordable price range, although at 1.745g they are only slightly heavier than the higher-class version: No wonder, because the tires are also on the 22mm wide aluminum rims here , but the difference lies in the hubs: Here you have to do without the toothed disc and make do with a conventional pawl freewheel.
Both wheel sets will be available at the end of September/beginning of October.
