Market / E-Performance: The Swiss from Flyer have presented a lot of new e-bikes in various areas and some exciting technical innovations for the 2018 model year. We've put together a short, crisp overview of the 2018 Flyer e-bikes.
Flyer E-Bikes 2018: These are the technical innovations
The Flyer Integrated Technology (FIT) is not something new for 2017, but has become one of the trademarks of the Swiss manufacturer. The idea is as simple as the implementation is complex: all systems on the bike should be connected to a control center and be able to communicate with each other. The motor with the gears, the light with the handlebar remote control and the battery with the lighting system - all components together with the display. FIT is available as optional equipment for almost all Flyer e-bikes with a Panasonic drive.
The X2018 motor from Panasonic, which does without the 0-speed gearbox of the well-known X2, is completely new for the coming model year of the Flyer e-bikes 1. But the new drive has a little more power and can of course be operated a little more intuitively. Together with the X0, a matching, new color display is also presented, which has shrunk significantly in size compared to its predecessor and can be individually mounted on the handlebars - whether at the front, rear or right next to the stem. This is particularly interesting for E-MTBs, where it makes sense to attach the display to a protected position to better protect it in the event of a fall. The new RC0 and RC1 remotes are more reduced than the well-known RC2 and can therefore be operated very well without looking and even with gloves.
A lot has also happened with the functions: There is now a heart rate measurement and also a navigation, in which the specialists from Komoot worked together. The individual range regulation is also exciting, which dynamically adjusts the output power in favor of a longer range, regardless of the selected support level.
Flyer E-Bikes 2018: New touring additions to the Gotour series
The touring bikes of the Gotour series from Flyer have some innovations and completely new models for 2018. The two comfort touring Flyer Gotour4 and Gotour5 are brand new in the program, but follow the well-known concept of the established Gotour series for a lot of comfort and 100% suitability for everyday use. The two step-through step-throughs help less physically fit riders with their very low step-through, which, however, does almost nothing to detract from the modern look of the bike. The wide selection of different frame sizes is also nice, of which the XS models are even equipped with the small 26″ wheels.
The motor of the two new step-through bikes comes from Panasonic: The new 1-speed X0 drive offers up to 30% more top performance than its predecessor, supports up to 25km/h and is optionally even powered by a powerful 648Wh battery. It is operated using the two new color displays D0 or D1 (for FIT), and the buyer has a large selection of equipment, as is usual with Flyer. So there will be the new tourers with derailleur or hub gears. Headlamps from Busch & Müller ensure powerful and proper lighting. Optionally, the two new step-through bikes from Flyer are also available with the in-house FIT technology for even more possibilities - for example a high beam function.
The two new models start at €3.399, are available in black and white and will go on sale in autumn 2017.
But that's not all with the news in the Gotour model range. With the Flyer Gotour 6 there is now a highly interesting new touring bike that is more sporty and also has a very simple and successful look. The drive here comes from Swabia – namely from Bosch. They rely on the two new motors in the Active Line and Active Line Plus series, which are significantly smaller, lighter and, above all, quieter than their predecessors. The new PowerTube 500 battery, which disappears completely in the down tube, also ensures an even sleeker look.
Product news: Bosch 2018 with integrated battery, Di2 integration and Nyon news
Market / E-Performance: Bosch E-Bike Systems recently presented the innovations for the 2018 season. In addition to the widely acclaimed E-Bike ABS, two new drives were also presented. The third major innovation is the first integrable battery called PowerTube 500. In addition, the eShift integration of Shimano's Di2 components is being promoted. It […]
Product news: Bosch 2018 with two new e-bike drives: Active Line Plus and 'new' Active Line
Market / E-Performance: In 2018, Bosch is continuing the e-bike offensive and launching the Active Line Plus, a completely new drive for comfort-oriented touring riders. In addition, the "normal" Active Line drive is getting a successor that is, above all, significantly more compact, lighter and quieter than its predecessor. Not only in this country [...]
Here, too, there are countless options and variants when it comes to alignment and equipment: In addition to the already mentioned drive, you can also choose between trapeze, step-through or men's frames and Flyer also gives its buyers a lot of freedom with the components themselves. The option of a belt drive should also be particularly interesting for frequent drivers. The almost 22kg e-bike is available in four sizes and will be available in stores at the beginning of 2018. Prices start at €2.999.
Flyer E-Bikes 2018: Stylish new Upstreet model
E-bikes have shed their reputation as the ugly ducklings of the bicycle market for a while now - the reason for this is also bikes like the new Flyer Upstreet5, which attach great importance to a successful look and can definitely compete with modern urban bikes without a motor. Technically, you are at the top here: The new urban e-bike is driven either by the new Panasonic X0 1-speed mid-motor or the well-known 2-speed model. From spring 2018 you can also use the new 621Wh battery. As with many Flyer bikes, the new Upstreet5 is optionally available with a robust and low-maintenance belt drive. Automatic shifting in combination with the NuVinci shifting hub is also possible.
Optionally, Flyers FIT technology is also available here for even more high-tech. The 23kg e-bike is available in the colors pearl grey, red and blue and with a classic men's frame, trapezoidal frame or as a step-through frame. Prices start at €3.199 and the Upstreet5 flyer will be available from autumn 2017.
E-Bikes 2018 flyer: E-MTB trending topic – new Uproc Bikes flyer
With so many Flyer E-Bikes 2018 innovations, there is of course also a comprehensive rejuvenation for the Uproc MTB range. Both the variants with the in-house Panasonic drive will be relaunched for 2018 and the Bosch-powered bikes also have some exciting innovations to offer.
The Flyer Uproc 1, Uproc3 and Uproc6 models will again be powered by the powerful Bosch Performance CX motor next year. However, the Swabians have some new features for the coming season, all of which have been picked up by Flyer and integrated into the Uproc models. For example, there is the PowerTube 500 battery, which is not on the down tube as before, but disappears into it. So that the valuable energy supplier is also well protected in the right off-road use, Flyer has developed the Battery Shield (FBS), which is held on the down tube by a magnetic fastener and protects the battery from all external influences.
In terms of hardware, the engine remains the same as its predecessor, but a lot has happened in terms of software. An update containing the new E-MTB mode has been available since July 1st. The new Flyer Uproc models with Bosch drive come with the new version ex works. In short, the E-MTB mode is a dynamic support level that replaces the previous Sport mode. The bandwidth of support ranges from tour to turbo and is determined by driver-dependent factors. For example, if you pedal harder, you get more power. This results in a much more natural riding behavior that comes much closer to that of a real mountain bike and offers great advantages, especially in technical sections.
E-mountain bikes: First Ride: The new eMTB mode on the Bosch Performance CX
E-Performance / Test: As part of the Bike Festival in Riva, Bosch presented a new mode for the Performance CX drive that is specially tailored to the needs of E-MTBs. The support mode, pragmatically named 'eMTB', dynamically controls the power, depending on what the driver needs in the respective situation. Bosch is certainly one of […]
However, nothing has changed in the basic orientation of the three Bosch bikes from Flyer. The 18kg light Uproc1 (without battery) is a touring hardtail and, like all Flyer E-MTBs with a Bosch motor, will be available in spring 2018. It will cost from €2.799 – you have to dig much deeper into your pocket for the two fullies; Like the Uproc3 (140mm), the Uproc6 (160mm) has a base price of €3.999.
There are a few more innovations in the Flyer Uproc2, Uproc4 and Uproc7 models, which are powered by a Panasonic motor instead of a Bosch. This is now also available as an X0 variant with one gear - if you prefer the well-known two-speed gearbox, you can configure it as well. Some changes have also been made to the frame - the shape has been modified for more rigidity and the new Boost axle standard and wide Plus tires are now used. The Uproc2 Hardtail is also optionally available with normal 29″ wheels and tires. For those who value the comfort of an MTB above all else, but mainly use it on paved roads and in the city, the Uproc models are also available with fixed mudguards, luggage racks and lights.
The powerful 621Wh battery is also new, but will not be available until spring 2018. The Uproc2, Uproc4 and Uproc7 models will be available from autumn 2017 at prices starting at €3.199 (Uproc2), €3.799 (Uproc4) and €4.099 (Uproc7).
