Market / E-Performance: In 2018, Bosch is continuing the e-bike offensive and launching the Active Line Plus, a completely new drive for comfort-oriented touring riders. In addition, the "normal" Active Line drive is getting a successor that is, above all, significantly more compact, lighter and quieter than its predecessor.
Not only in this country Bosch is probably the top dog par excellence on the e-bike market. However, we do not rest on our laurels, but continue to drive development forward. A few weeks ago, the new eMTB mode for Performance CX drives was presented in Riva, now the Active Line Plus and a new Active Line are followed by two completely new drives, which are primarily aimed at city and touring pedelecs.
E-bikes: First Ride: The new eMTB mode on the Bosch Performance CX
E-Performance / Test: As part of the Bike Festival in Riva, Bosch presented a new mode for the Performance CX drive that is specially tailored to the needs of E-MTBs. The support mode, pragmatically named 'eMTB', dynamically controls the power, depending on what the driver needs in the respective situation. Bosch is certainly one of […]
The e-bike market is booming and the bikes themselves are also developing faster and faster. However, this not only affects the technology, but above all the optics, because of which e-bikes have had to take a lot of beatings in the past. It is therefore not surprising that the development of the new Bosch drives also focused on this. The engine itself has shrunk by about 20% compared to its direct predecessor. On the one hand, this enables a much more elegant frame integration for the manufacturers, on the other hand, the already critical bottom bracket area is somewhat streamlined. The move away from the strict specifications for manufacturers when it comes to engine covers also fits in with this approach: In the future, Bosch will give the designers a free hand and you can look forward to a much more individual look.
But of course: Not only have the optics and the size of the motors been fine-tuned, but some technical advances have also been made. The new Active Line Plus drive is positioned in the portfolio of the drive specialist between the Active Line and Performance Line and is aimed at comfort-loving city riders who also like to take longer tours under their wheels and therefore want a little more power. The Active Line Plus delivers 50NM compared to only 40NM with the normal Active Line. Logically, the weight also decreased with the installation dimensions: The strong Active Line Plus weighs 3,2 kg, the Active Line is even one of the lightest e-bike drives at all at 2,9 kg.
Another feature is the new gearbox inside the motor: This not only makes the drive significantly quieter than its predecessor, even while driving, but also has another, very decisive advantage. The resistance when pedaling while driving without a motor is now negligible and hardly noticeable. So if the drive switches off beyond 25km/h, you can continue pedaling normally and hardly notice that it is an e-bike.
Both drives will be available in 2018 and we might see a complete bike or two with the new drives before the end of the year.

does anyone know if a pedelec with Active Line can be converted to Active Line Plus?
