Cycling: On the 2nd stage of the Tour of California, Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) won ahead of George Bennett (LottoNL-Jumbo), Ian Boswell (Sky) and Lachlan Morton (Dimension Data). With this, the Polish champion also slips into the leader's jersey.
Strong performance by Maximilian Schachmann
After a bumpy 144,5 kilometers from Modesto to San Jose, Rafal Majka won the first mountain stage out of a four-man lead group. The quartet was able to break away 50 kilometers from the finish on the category HC climb Mount Hamilton. Germany's Maximilian Schachmann finished in the chasing group, 37 seconds back. Rafal Majka not only took the lead in the overall standings, but also in the points classification. To date, this has been led by Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors), who 1st stage could win. Two mass sprints are expected in Morro Bay and Santa Clarita over the next two days. This is followed by a mountain finish at Mount Baldy and a time trial at Big Bear Lake. The Tour of California will come to an end in Pasadena on Saturday with a bumpy final stage.
