MTB cycling: The MTB Bundesliga started the 17 season last weekend with the 2017th edition of the BiketheRock Festival in Heubach. The opening race was won by Sabine Spitz from Murg-Niederhof and Mathias Flückiger from Switzerland. Max Brandl won the race in the U23 class.
For the Radon Factory Racing Team, the recent past weekend was under a very good star. While Kathrin Stirnemann won the legendary marathon race as part of the Bike Festival on Lake Garda, Mathias Flückiger shone in Heubach. The Swiss dominated the race from the first to the last lap and won 1.40m XNUMXs ahead of Frenchman Jordan Sarrou. Just behind him, Florian Vogel from Switzerland crossed the finish line in third place. The performance of Julian Absalon (BMC Racing), who was considered the favourite, was surprising. The Frenchman wasn't at XNUMX percent and ended up lonely in fourth place.
In her long career, Sabine Spitz (Wiawis) has actually won everything there is to win. But one bill was still open: a victory in Heubach. Last weekend the time had finally come: With an eleven second lead over the Ukrainian Yana Belomoina (CST Sandd American Eagle), Sabine Spitz was able to achieve an outstanding victory despite a mistake on the long downhill section. The podium was completed by the Dane Annika Langvad (+0.39 minutes). Adelheid Morath finished the opening race in Heubach in fifth place. In two weeks, the second run of the MTB Bundesliga 2017 will take place at the Vulkan Race Gedern.
