Assos is not without reason one of the absolute cult brands in the high-class road bike sector and now also has a loyal fan base. Opinions are often divided when it comes to the look of the products - this is also the case with the rS.sturmPrinz Evo rain jacket, where the two shiny black inserts at shoulder height are particularly eye-catching. But in addition to the idiosyncratic look, the Swiss from Assos prove again with the Sturmprinz Evo that they understand exactly what the performance-oriented racing cyclist needs and what not. So the conscious decision was made not to construct a 100% waterproof jacket in order to ensure a high level of breathability even when racing. You rely on two different materials - while a waterproof hardshell membrane is used on the chest and lower back, you will find a slightly stretchy, breathable material under the shoulders and upper back.
Two ventilation openings on the lower side of the back also function as access openings for the jersey’s back pockets underneath – clever! Tight-fitting, well-impregnated cuffs and the tight-fitting stand-up collar round off the positive overall impression. As understandable as the strategic use of two materials and the sacrifice of rain protection in favor of breathability is, we were a bit surprised that the front zip is not sealed in any way. Although this is very easy to open and close, a few drops of water are really enough and it gets damp on the inside.
The cut of the Assos rS.sturmPrinz Evo suits the area of use: very tight sleeves, short front, low back for best splash protection. A small pocket in the middle of the back offers space for a few small items. Reflective elements on all sides, in combination with the eye-catching color, ensure very good visibility in traffic.
