Market: With the Shimano Deore M6000, the Japanese component giant is launching an updated version of what is probably the most popular mid-range group for MTB and trekking for 2017. In addition to a new design, the group has also been given some technical innovations.
Shimano Deore 2017 M6000
With the Deore group for 2017, Shimano is heaving its next group into the new nomenclature: After the number 9000 (XTR), 8000 (XT), 7000 (SLX), the middle-class standard Deore now has the number 6000. But who is going to do that? reckoned that the Japanese would now give the Deore eleven sprockets - like last year's SLX group - will be disappointed, at least in this respect. In 2017, the Shimano Deore will remain a 10-speed group for the time being.
But in terms of design, the new Deore components inherit some elements of the higher quality groups: The crank is now visually much slimmer and is very reminiscent of the SLX M7000 crank presented last season. There will be three variants for 2×10 drives in 2017, and in the case of the Deore, the 3×10 is also still being used: Since the crank is also often installed on trekking bikes, it is certainly an understandable decision. A dedicated 1-speed crank with just one chainring, on the other hand, will not exist. In contrast, the B (for Boost) variant has a chain line 3mm further out for wider tires or hubs.

- 38-28 teeth
- 36-26 teeth
- 34-24 teeth
- 40-30-22 teeth
Three derailleur variants as top swing, down swing and the space-saving side swing variants ensure a smooth and quick chainring change. With five mounting options (clamp high, low and medium, direct mount and e-swing), the derailleurs can be fitted to almost any frame.
A damped Shadow+ rear derailleur is now used at the other end of the drive train. The chain now also runs on the new CS-HG500 cassette, which offers a wide range with 11-42 teeth and could also be used on a 1-speed system. There are no innovations in the shift levers - why should they? The Rapidfire Plus triggers have always worked well and will continue to do their job reliably for years to come.
There is currently no detailed information on the brakes, but judging by the first pictures, the new BR-M6000 brakes correspond visually and technically to their predecessors.
Shimano 2017: New XT wheels and group-free MTB components
In addition to the Deore, there will also be a number of other new MTB components from Shimano in the coming season. Among other things, the wheels of the XT series are being updated and not only offered with Boost hubs, but also in two widths for cross country and trail. The new wheels will be available for both 29″ and 27,5″.
Among the groupless components, the limelight belongs above all to the two new cranks MT600 and MT500. While both are based on the new Deore group in terms of technology and design, the former comes as a 2×11, the MT500 only as a 2×10 variant.
Also interesting is the new SLX M7000 cassette, which with 11-46 gradation is the perfect choice for those who only want to drive a chain ring at the front.
Both the new Deore group and the other new MTB components will be available in May 2017.
