Market: With the Focus Bold, a new trail hardtail from Germany sees the light of day in the 2017 season. Trail-ready equipment with plus tires and an aluminum frame with modern geometry is available for less than €700. The new Focus addition is also available with an electric drive as the Bold².
Hardtails are experiencing a kind of rebirth these days - while they were recently overshadowed by the full-suspension "competition", more and more drivers and manufacturers are seeing the puristic models with a rigid rear end in a new light. A little more suspension travel, a modern geometry with a long frame and a flat steering angle and Plus tires transform the hardtails, which were once more at home in touring and racing, into potent trail predators. The problem with this: Many of these trail hardtails are more of a collector's item for those who already have one or more fullies in the garage anyway - the frame and equipment are often of high quality, and the price is correspondingly high. We consider this type of mountain bike to be perfect for many (re)starters who don't want to spend half a fortune on their bike.

It is precisely this group of buyers that the German manufacturer Focus wants to appeal to with its new Bold: The two cheapest equipment variants are priced under €1.000, but come with powerful Plus tires. From €1.499 you get a SRAM 11-speed drivetrain, 120mm spring travel, dropper post and a modern frame with a slack steering angle. The top variant in factory spec comes with a Rock Shox fork and 10-42 cassette for a larger gear range.
With the Bold Donna, there is also a women-specific model in the program whose geometry does not differ from the corresponding men's model, but is equipped with a women's saddle and special grips.
