Cycling: The German team Giant-Alpecin announced two transfers of promising talents today. In addition to the 22-year-old Phil Bauhaus from Bora-Argon 18, the only 19-year-old Lennard Kämna (previously Stölting Service Group) will support the team from the coming season. Both commitments are a clear pointer to the future and the development of German talent at the highest level.
Exciting news from the Giant-Alpecin camp: With Lennard Kämna and Phil Bauhaus, two of the currently most promising talents in German cycling will be signed from the coming season. Both sign a contract for two years – i.e. until the end of 2018. “[…] we [are] happy to support German talent. Starting next season, these opportunities will be expanded with our modern development program. The most talented German and international drivers will join this program. This is part of the team's great development pyramid, the base of which is formed by the German Talent Days. The new high-end development program serves as a gateway to the WorldTour team at the top of that pyramid,” Coach Marc Reef sets the direction for the future.
Of course, Bauhaus and Kämna are also happy about the opportunity to present and develop themselves at a high level at a very young age. At the tender age of 19, Kämna will certainly be one of the youngest professionals at WorldTour level next season. “The team's professional structures and philosophy were important factors that went into my final decision. In addition: The contribution that the team makes to bringing German cycling back to a high international level is very important," explains Kämna his decision for Giant-Alpecin. The team philosophy was also of crucial importance for Phil Bauhaus: “Their approach to developing young drivers is very successful and they have a lot of knowledge and expertise when it comes to sprint preparation. These important factors went into my decision.”
