Cycling: Bad news from the Giant-Alpecin training camp near Alicante. As the team announced on Twitter a few minutes ago, a serious training accident occurred this afternoon when a group collided with a car. All drivers are said to be stable, but there are probably two seriously injured.
Warren Barguil (FRA), John Degenkolb (GER), Chad Haga (USA), Fredrik Ludvigsson (SWE), Ramon Sinkeldam (NED) and Max Walscheid (GER) were involved in the accident. There is a report from a local newspaper on the course of the accident, which states that an English driver was driving on the wrong side of the road and collided with the training group in the mountains above the cyclist's paradise of Calpe. The first photos from the scene of the accident can already be seen on Twitter, which do not bode well.

According to the team, all are injured "conscious, stable and responsive." Team doctor Anko Boelens briefly comments: "We are all in shock and there are some major issues that we need to address. As bad as everything is – we were lucky in our misfortune.” There is no information about the two seriously injured people who can be read about in the local media – nor about the alleged serious injuries to John Degenkolb. We stay tuned and keep our fingers crossed for all drivers!
