Cycling: The 20th edition of the world-famous Megavalanche will take place next weekend. In France's Alpe d'Huez, more than 2000 starters will once again set off for Allemont in a mass start on Sunday.
The Megavalanche in Alpe d'Huez has been an integral part of the mountain bike scene for many years. With its mass starts on snow, it is both feared and recognized as one of the most prestigious races. From the Pic Blanc, at 3300 meters altitude, you descend to Allemont.
It goes over ice, snow, hill and dale. Not for nothing is it considered one of the toughest races. In addition to a journey time of over 30 minutes, the weather also plays a major role. Last year it rained so hard that the riders used 26 inch wheels in 27.5 inch suspension forks to keep the wheels turning despite the mass of mud. Pierre Charles Georges won thanks to this technique in 2014.
We are excited to see what the Megavalanche will bring this year and look back on it with the highlight video from last year.
