Tour de France #12 Preview: Will Tadej Pogacar hit back at Alpe d'Huez?

July 13, 2022 by Michael Behringer

Tour de France Alpe d'Huez

Cycling: Tomorrow we can look forward to what is probably the most famous mountain finish in history at the Tour de France: Alpe d'Huez. Will Tadej Pogacar be back here after his burglary today? Or can the local fans finally celebrate a victory on their French national day?

Tour de France Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d'Huez expects 500.000 fans

The climb to Alpe d'Huez is not the steepest, not the longest and not the most difficult. But he is the most famous and mystical of the Tour de France. Great triumphs and terrible dramas have taken place here in the past decades. Another chapter from Alpe d'Huez could be added to the history book of the Tour de France tomorrow. Because after today's stage Tadej pogacar (UAE) will probably be at the start with a lot of anger in their stomachs. Before the 21 turns up to the winter sports resort, the pros also have to complete the Col du Galibier and the Col de la Croix de Fer. After a total of 165,1 kilometers and the start in Briançon, the section in L'Alpe d'Huez will end around 17:30 p.m.

Velomotion forecast: France can finally celebrate

On the French National Day, the local fans finally want the first stage winner from their country. Tomorrow in Alpe d'Huez the chances are good. A large breakaway will break away from the peloton early on - almost certainly in that Thibaut Pinot, Warren Barguil and / or Aurélien Paret-Peintre. The French will try with all their might to celebrate a day's win on July 14th. But there are also strong competitors from abroad. The Italian Damian Caruso could also want to turn his disappointment in the general classification into a stage win, like the Colombians Rigoberto Urán and Daniel Martínez. Of course, we mustn't forget the classification drivers. But Tadej pogacar will hardly be able to suddenly drive everything into the ground again tomorrow. And at Jumbo - Visma you won't do anything to win the stage. If a favorite wins, he might as well Romain Bardet be called.

☆☆☆ Aurélien Paret-Peintre (Ag2r – Citroën)
☆ ☆ Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ), Damian Caruso (Bahrain-Victorious)
☆ Warren Barguil (Arkea – Samsic), Romain Bardet (DSM), Daniel Martinez (Ineos Grenadiers)
