Unfortunately, this great Mallorca week with champion training is now over. Like most things in life, time just goes by way too fast. As soon as we have all acclimatized here on the island, the participants are already heading back home.
When I then saw the German news and the weather report of the last few days, I can say with a big grin, "fortunately not for me" - because I still have a week in the Robinson Club to add to it. You are more than happy to be able to jet over this dreamlike island for a short time.
At all. We used to be at the Robinson with the T-Mobile team very often, but now I see Mallorca very differently than when I was a professional. At that time we mostly didn't see much of the island apart from the complex. Even when going out together, this was limited to the bike of the person in front. Everything is much more relaxed today. Taking a cappuccino break in a different wonderful spot every day, lots of nice people around you – unbeatable.
Especially Thursday and Friday were great tours. Thursday along the coast to Port de Valldemossa and back via Coll de Soller - 126 km. And Friday, very pithy, the tour with the name I didn't think of: "Jan Ullrich Challenge" - it was always a challenge, over Soller Pass, Puig Major, Orient and Coll de Hono, all over 140 km - very ambitious.
Speaking of ambitious: this afternoon we're watching the Tour of Flanders together. It's a really great race to watch ... but being in the lead is only for the really tough guys. It would be great if Dege [John Degenkolb] was up there again today. I can still remember well when Wese [Steffen Wesemann] was the first German to win the Tour in 2004. For the classics specialists, such a monumental victory is the ultimate culmination of a career - quite comparable to a big tour victory.
So we wish the drivers every success and above all I wish you at home better weather.
See you soon,
Your Jan
