Hello to my second report from my trip to the USA with Away from it all. We are in Colorado and Utah and what can I say when I was just raving about it last time? It's breathtaking. Yesterday our fourth tour over 130 km took us to Bryce Canyon - once again over a pass at 2.500 meters. From up there I sent you a short video message across the pond.
It was so hot in places that we all wished we would make a little stop every day like yesterday when we hiked four kilometers across country to an incredibly awesome waterfall during our lunch break. You could swim there and the scenery was really like in a Hollywood movie.
The restaurants where we stop for lunch and dinner each have a very special touch. If you're just a bit into Wild West romance, you have to come by here. If a steakhouse is already called Hell's Backbone, then you know it.
We left Boulder on Highway 12 on our pre-rest day tour. If ever a road was built just for cyclists, this is it! Simply spectacular how this road winds through desert and canyons. We have now slept two nights in the Cedar Breaks Lodge. Today was a rest day here. Although rest day is actually not correct. We rode quads through the back country, rode real cowboy horses and finally flew over Bryce Canyon in a heli. You're at least as exhausted in the evening as you are after 130 km on a racing bike!
All photos (and the video) are again from me or my cell phone. So if they don't 100% meet the quality standards that you otherwise have with Velomotion, please forgive me. I'll report back before I go home.
Your Jan
