General: Jan Ullrich Away from it All #3: Canyons and Las Vegas

Everything has an end - and unfortunately this most beautiful trip to the USA that I have ever had also comes to an end. Thanks to the guys at Away from it all, who have built a program that is second to none.

Friday's tour was awesome. I took a special picture of my Garmin for you to believe. First it goes up to 3.000 meters - with an increase of 1.500 meters, mind you - and then practically only downhill for 150 kilometers - I've never experienced anything like that. Watch the video; if you don't get jealous, you have a cyclist's heart made of stone 🙂

On Saturday there was another great alternative program - the tour was only about an hour long and took us to a canyon, at the foot of which we hiked along the river. At well over 30 degrees a more than welcome change.

The culture shock that I had to experience today is less welcome than a change. The return flight is again via Las Vegas, where I have to stay one night. After a week in nature, seeing this illusory world with bling-bling and plastic and light and madness seems very unreal. Above is a photo from my hotel room – well…

Anyway I'm looking forward to home and my loved ones and I'm going to make the most of this huge bed here in my room to dream of a great week with canyons, nice people, great food and lots of sun.
