Test: As a somewhat lazy cyclist, you have certainly dealt with tires at some point. There is a supposedly perfect tire for every application. However, if you want to avoid the hassle of changing tires, you start looking for the best all-rounder. We had that Geax Sturdy 2.25 TNT in addition.

The Geax Sturdy 2.25 TNT At first glance, it seems to be exactly the all-rounder you want. Geax specifies the weight of the folding tire as 790 grams, which prefers dry terrain but should also provide enough control in wet conditions. After all, three out of five stars are given for wet conditions, and even five out of five for dry conditions. Expectations are rising. We have tested the tire under a wide range of conditions over the past few months. He accompanied us on our fast home trails, at the Enduro DM in Schöneck and in the Winterberg Bike Park.

But at the beginning, the tire mounting is on the program. As did the Geax Cat, which we presented, the Sturdy is very difficult to pull onto the rim, despite the folding version. The TNT The carcass shows little flexibility, so we spent a few minutes trying to get the tire in the right position. Once it's in place, you can take a deep breath, but we were already afraid of the first flat tire.

The abbreviation TNT stands for TubeNoTube and is characterized by a reinforced carcass with good lateral support and good puncture protection. Fortunately, the carcass convinced with exactly these abilities. We didn't record any flat tires during our entire test phase and the lateral support was also impressive. Usually the air pressure was between 1,5 and 1,8 bar, which suited the tire perfectly.

On the first tours, the good rolling behavior was particularly noticeable. With skillful pushing, the speed can be increased with the Sturdy hold very well, so that you can divide the force well. The profile of the tire also does a good job. The aggressive lugs build up a lot of grip in the dry and thanks to the stable carcass, quick changes of direction are no problem.
The denser lugs in the center of the tire are made of a much harder rubber compound than the shoulder lugs. This leaves the Sturdy while becoming an excellent tire in the dry, it offers little control in the wet and especially on rocks. He slides over the stones and is difficult to control.

Conclusion

The Geax Sturdy 2.25 TNT is not the hoped-for all-rounder, but is particularly convincing in the dry in terms of grip, lateral support and rolling behavior. The solid rubber compound in combination with the strong carcass results in a reliable and robust tyre. However, in the rain, the tire quickly reaches its limits and offers little control.
