Triathlon: At the sixth of eight World Championship rounds, the spectators in Hamburg not only saw two exciting races, but also a comeback from Alistair Brownlee. In the end, the Olympic champion won well ahead of Frenchman Vincent Luis and his brother Johnathan. Championship leader Javier Gomez was fourth. In the women's race, Gwen Jorgensen celebrated her fourth win in a row.
The men's race started quickly. After almost nine minutes, the favorites got out of the water together. After that, alongside the Brownlee brothers and Gomez on the bike, the Germans Steffen Justus and Justus Nieschlag set the pace. And both finished the 20-kilometer bike distance with the favourites.
On the last 5 kilometers, however, only Justus was able to follow. In the end, he was the best German and was able to celebrate eighth place.
At the top, a quartet broke away that in the end should make up the victory among themselves. Alistair Brownlee showed the best legs, breaking away from Luis and his brother in the sprint. Behind them, Gomez managed to finish fourth and defended his lead in the overall World Championship standings.
The American Gwen Jorgensen prevailed again in the women's category. She confidently dominated the assembled female competition and relegated Emma Jackson and Kirsten Sweetland to the places. Rebecca Robisch was the best German in 13th place.
