On Saturday, the GREEN'N FIT team started Circuit Cycling at the Hockenheim Ring. Race number 5 in the German Cycling Cup. The team also showed an excellent performance on the former Formula 1 track. Patrick Hanhart won again on the short distance, Manuela Freund and Marion Wittler came second and third on the long distance. Pascal Hanhart and Cosima Henrichs also made it onto the podium in their age groups. Unfortunately, the team also had to mourn two falls with Manuela and Felix Schmidt. Although both were able to finish their races, Felix suffered a fractured forearm and elbow. The team wishes Felix a speedy recovery and a speedy recovery. This time Thomas Frost reports on his very personal race.
Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10.30:15.00 a.m.: Departure with my team diesel. Also on board are Marion, Andreas and Dorothea. Around 20 p.m. we arrive at the Hockenheimring. As always, it was an impressive atmosphere, one that makes your pulse beat XNUMX beats faster when you're standing still.
We then set up our base camp right next to the Grand Prix race track in the so-called Conti roundabout. It's always a plus to be so close as we always love to have an after race party with the other teams after the race.
The weather finally played along and it promised to stay dry, which was also an advantage in view of the high cornering speed. The traditional race track without any significant meters of altitude promised pure top speed.
This time I was physically very well, I was healthy, not as bad as in Göttingen or Cologne. So there were no excuses. We positioned ourselves early in starting block A and the starting shot was fired punctually at 17.30:XNUMX p.m.
For me, the first four laps were pretty much on the limit, especially since there were a few falls again. Therefore, it was always necessary to close holes. Sometimes I thought, now I'm out. But after the sixth lap it suddenly started working again and I was able to work my way up from lap to lap. So I finally managed to place myself in the top group among the first 40 drivers.
In the final sprint, many riders from the 90's lap were still in the way, and so I just went through with them. But it doesn't matter, it was enough for 35th place overall, but I just missed my AK podium with fourth place.
With a great performance over the long distance, Manuela once again ensured a top placement. She was once again able to defend her yellow leadership jersey. Our second power woman, Marion, was also able to get on the podium! Once in, everyone is already in lap fever, so Rad am Ring can come.
