cycling: Crelan-AA Drink: Sven Nys presents new team

31 December 2013 by the editorial office

It has been an open secret for a few months now that Belgian cyclocross world champion Sven Nys will start for a new team in 2014. In this context, reference was always made to the US company Trek, which is said to act as the team's bike supplier. Now the secret is out: Sven Nys will form the Crelan-AA Drink team together with his teammate Sven Vantourenhout.

Only a few days after the end of the ProConti outfit Crelan-Euphony, representatives of the bank said that they would like to continue working with Nys in the future. So it's hardly surprising that Crelan will continue to act as the main sponsor of the newly formed cyclocross team. A new addition is AA Drink, a manufacturer of isotonic sports drinks.

In Diegem, Nys said goodbye to the season with a win. In his jubilation, he included a gesture of thanks to his previous outfitter Colnago. Since beginning his professional career in 1998, Nys had never ridden any other brand of bike. But now a change will take place. And here, too, the rumor is true. Nys will be equipped by Trek from now on. The Americans, who want to expand their involvement in cyclocross, supply the team with frames, while the Bontrager subsidiary provides the components.

The first race in the new outfit will be the GP Sven Nys in Baal on January 1st, 2014. Then the last era of his career will probably begin for the world champion, which he doesn't want to end next year after all, but only after the 2015 season.
