Cycling: Sven Nys (Crelan-AA Drink), Klaas Vantournout (Sunweb) and Lars van der Haar (Giant-Shimano) were the three strongest riders at the opening race of the Soudal Classic Series in Neerpelt.
After Van der Haar got the best start, it was Rob Peeters (Vastgoedservice) who led the field behind the Dutchman. Nys, Vantournout and Philipp Walsleben (BKCP-Powerplus) also got off to a good start.
Walsleben then fell victim to a technical defect during the pursuit. Anders Nys, Vantournout, and Sweek, who managed to catch up with Van der Haar.
After that it was Vantournout who took over the pace at the front. Only Nys could follow him. On the home straight, the reigning Belgian champions were faster. Vantournout had to settle for second place. Third was Van der Haar.
