Rostock's André Greipel gave his team Lotto-Belisol a home win at the Brussels Cycling Classic. In the sprint of the remaining field, he clearly prevailed against John Degenkolb (Argos-Shimano) and Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ). Gerald Ciolek (MTN-Qhubeka) completed the good performance of the Germans in sixth place.
The Brussels Cycling Classic is the successor to the traditional Paris-Brussels race and for the professional peloton is now over 197 kilometers around the Belgian capital. First, a breakaway group dominated the race. However, since the sprinter teams agreed, they were stopped a few kilometers before the finish line. In the final rush, there was a mass crash seven kilometers before the end. The two fast-paced Germans were unimpressed by this. For Greipel, the victory was the 13th success this season.
