BDR: André Greipel becomes the new national coach

Cycling: The Federation of German Cyclists has a new national coach: André Greipel. The now 40-year-old ex-professional succeeds Jens Zemke.

Greipel: "The current generation is strong"

Due to deadlines, Jens Zemke has resigned from his position as BDR national coach. And now the Federation of German Cyclists has presented a successor. André Greipel will look after the German national team in the future. The now 40-year-old was still a professional in the WorldTour until the end of 2021. In the best phase of his career, the gorilla – as his fans call him – won eleven stages at the Tour de France, seven stages at the Giro d'Italia and four at the Vuelta a Espana. He was also able to celebrate twice the overall victory at the Tour Down Under.

Andre Greipel:
"When I was asked, I asked for some time to think it over before I agreed. This is completely new for me, a big challenge. I'm really looking forward to working with the athletes, I want to get the best out of them. The current generation is strong. Forming a team with them, pursuing a common goal and successfully implementing it will be an exciting task.”
