Things are going really well for Spanish short-distance specialist Javier Gomez. After his title success in London [Link], the Spaniard now also secured victory at the Beijing International Triathlon. In the Middle Kingdom, the Spaniard set the best time in the water and was the sole leader on the bike course. Here he was caught by Greg Bennett (USA) after a good ten kilometers. As a result, they jointly increased their lead over the rest of the field. As expected, Gomez didn't give his escape companion a chance on the final run. The American Brian Fleischmann took third place behind Bennet.
The Swede Lisa Nordén dominated the women's race, but only after she switched to the bike. After the swim, she was still well behind Sarah Groff (USA) and Carolina Routier (Spain). The duo had broken away in the swim but couldn't keep up with the pace set by Nordén. After providing the duo, the Swede left no doubt about her form. In the end she went on the final run with a full lead of almost five minutes. Here Groff was able to reduce the gap again. At the finish, however, she had to settle for second place. Behind her, the American Jenna Parker took third place. Pleasing from a German point of view: Ricarda Lisk was fourth.
