Test: The North American manufacturer Pedro's is an old acquaintance on the bicycle accessories market. We took a closer look at the Pedros Prestige floor pump. The design is sober, no frills and functional. We think it's nice that Pedro's places the pressure gauge on the top of the pump handle on the Prestige - this makes it much easier to read.
The grip of the Prestige makes a good impression. Although it is mostly made of plastic, it is very comfortably shaped and the rubber inserts are in exactly the right places. The pressure gauge placed at the top of the pump is a bit small, but thanks to its clever placement it can still be read easily at any time. Thanks to the clever placement, the contrast, which could be improved, and the small lettering are not too important either. Unfortunately, the pump head does not offer the possibility to be hung on the handle - the pump cannot therefore simply be carried by the handle. That's a bit annoying and no longer up-to-date.
The biggest shortcoming of the Pedro's is the base, which is also made of plastic. This is very small compared to the competition and has no rubber coating on the bottom. In practice, this leads to an extremely wobbly position. The connection between the pump cylinder and the base is not particularly rigid: this means that the lower part of the pump twists slightly. This also contributes to the somewhat unstable overall impression. That's a pity, because the pump performance of the Prestige is very convincing. The piston is extremely smooth-running and the pump has no significant problems with either large volumes or high pressure.
