The new Specialized Turbo Creo 2: Everything new for more performance

September 27, 2023 by Florian Nowak

Product news: More than 4 years ago, Specialized was one of the first manufacturers with the Turbo Creo to take the topic of e-gravel bikes or e-racing bikes seriously and came up with its own drive for the motorized dropbar model. With the new SL 1.2 Turbo motor for more power, as well as a completely revised geometry and MTB-like tire clearance, the new Specialized Turbo Creo 2 is only slightly reminiscent of its predecessor.
Everything new - The frame, the geometry, the engine and even the own app, almost everything on the new Specialized Turbo Creo 2 has been renewed. Even if at first glance you can see a clear focus on the gravel sector, the bike with narrower tires should also be good for e-racing bike adventures.

The innovations on the Specialized Turbo Creo 2

Specialized Turbo Creo 2

Even if the drive is just one of the many innovations, it is still a core element of an e-bike and the main decisive factor for the overall performance. Nevertheless, the completely revised frame including progressive geometry and more generous tire clearance, as well as the new Future Shock System, the new bikepacking suitability or even a new app should not be ignored.

The new Specialized Turbo SL 1.2 engine

More efficient, lighter, quieter – these are the improvements of the new SL 1.2 engine. According to the US manufacturer, the new SL 1.2 motor marks a turning point, because no other system offers so much power and range while also being the quietest e-bike system in the world. Compared to the 35 Nm of its predecessor, the drive now brings 50 Nm to the crank and supports up to 320 watts instead of 240 watts. An integrated honeycomb structure ensures lower noise levels and is said to make the SL 1.2 engine 40% quieter.

The improved efficiency of the system allows the use of smaller, lighter batteries with the same range. This was achieved by optimizing power transmission at around 90 pedal revolutions per minute. This is intended to provide a particularly natural driving experience. With the new app, the drive system can be individually adjusted and tuned depending on your preferences.

Frame and geometry for every terrain

In addition to the drive, the frame with its geometry is of course one of the most important elements. Here too, Specialized has done a lot of tinkering and tinkering to be able to present this result. It all started with a Fact 11r Carbon and a new geometry that was intended to be ideal for relaxed day tours, but also wild gravel adventures and everything in between. Compared to its predecessor, the bike features a longer stack, a flatter head tube angle, a deeper bottom bracket, a shorter stem and wider tires. This means that the bike should remain pleasantly stable even on uneven terrain and support the rider in all situations.

Numerous mounting points for front and rear luggage racks and lowriders have also been planned for the new Specialized Turbo Creo 2. Furthermore, mudguards for tires up to 47C can be attached to enable more everyday suitability.

More comfort thanks to tire clearance and Future Shock 3.0 system

The tires can still have a significant influence on the character of a bike. Despite all the technical innovations, they didn't want to limit themselves and offer a wide range of options to suit individual needs. With a tire clearance of up to 2,2 inches, there is hardly anything in the Turbo Creo 2's way.

To further support the comfort and all-round capabilities of the new Creos, the models were equipped with the new Future Shock 3.0 system. The gentle 20 mm travel of the hydraulic damping on the handlebars reduces shocks by more than 53%, which means a smoother and faster ride and can be worth its weight in gold on long tours.

All S-Works and Expert models come ex works with the Future Shock 3.3, which allows the spring to be adjusted directly on the bike and without tools. The Comp models come with the Future Shock 3.2 system, which can be adjusted with a little more effort and always provides the same suspension while driving. A factory-fitted lowerable seat post complements the high-quality comfort of the new Specialized Turbo Creo 2 models.
