Cycling: Fabio Jakobsen narrowly escaped another horror accident on the final stage of the Vuelta a San Juan. As a result, he missed out on winning the stage. The overall win goes to Miguel Angel Lopez.
Jakobsen hits a cell phone in the face
It was a scene of horror when Fabio Jacobsen (Soudal – Quick-Step) crashed into the barriers in Poland two and a half years ago and was seriously injured. Fortunately, the Dutchman has recovered well. He is now one of the best sprinters in the world again. And actually he would have liked to fight for a stage win again yesterday. He was in a good position on the final stage of the Vuelta a San Juan before being rudely stopped by a spectator. The fan stretched his hand out onto the roadway with his cell phone. Fabio Jakobsen raced along the gang towards victory when the hand with the mobile phone hit him full in the face. The Dutchman rolled out and gave away the victory.
Fabio Jaobsen:
“Someone held out their hand with a phone. I think a lot of people had a déjà vu with a view to the Tour of Poland.”
Miguel Angel Lopez triumphs for Medellin
The stage win on the final stage in San Juan and the section the day before was on Sam Welsford (DSM). The days before were already cheering Sam Bennett (Bora – hansgrohe), Fabio Jacobsen (Soudal – Quick Step), Quinn Simmons (Trek - Segafredo), Fernando Gaviria (Movistar) and Miguel Angel Lopez (Medellin-EPM). The last-mentioned Colombian can also look forward to the overall victory with his victory on the king's stage to the Alto Colorado. In doing so, he scored a significant victory for his new team – which only competes at Continental level – on its very first appearance.
#VueltaSJ2023 Thank you to Jakobsen
If you're an aficionado of the phone, you can grab it at a high speed and don't let the sprinters arrive at the maximum ♂️
Por fortuna, se quedó solo en un susto.
