Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne: Jakobsen sprints past the escapees

February 27, 2022 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: Fabio Jakobsen won the extremely exciting one-day race Kuurne - Brussels - Kuurne. The Dutchman won in the mass sprint - but this was not certain for a long time.

Jakobsen remains almost unbeatable in 2022

The 74th edition of Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne is coming up Fabio Jacobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl). After 195,1 kilometers in the mass sprint, the Dutchman was ahead of the Australian Caleb ewan (Lotto – Soudal) prevail. But a sprint decision was anything but certain until the last second. The majority of a strong breakaway group, including with Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ), Kasper Asgreen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) and Matteo Trentin (UAE) was placed about 20 kilometers before the finish. Only three riders remained from the former leading group until the final kilometer: Christophe Laporte (Jumbo – Visma), Jonathan Narvaez (Ineos Grenadiers) and Taco van der Hoorn (Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux). When she could already see the finish line, the sprinters rushed past.
