Track World Championship: Germany races to gold with world record in team sprint

13 October 2022 by Michael Behringer

Track World Championship team sprint

Track World Championships: Gold for Germany! At the start of the track cycling world championships in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, the team sprinters can look forward to the world title and a new world record.

World record & gold in the team sprint

With a sovereign performance, the German team sprinters won the gold medal in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France. Emma Hinze, Pauline Grabosch and Lea Sophie Friedrich could not be beaten by the Chinese in the final either. Incidentally, the German trio also set a new world record with a time of 45,967 seconds. Although China was ahead at the beginning of the final, they didn't stand a chance against the Germans at the end. Bronze went to Great Britain ahead of the Netherlands in a heartbeat decision.

4th place for men

The men's team sprint was less successful. Stefan Bötticher, Maximilian Dörnbach and Nik Schröter were allowed to compete in the small final. The Germans lost out to the British. They just missed out on the bronze medal. Surprisingly, gold went to Australia before the Netherlands. Matthew Glaetzer, Leigh Hoffman and Matthew Richardson caused a big surprise and ended a winning streak. In the women's scratch, Lea Lin Teutenberg finished seventh. Gold went to the Italian Martina Fidanza ahead of the Dutch Maike van der Duin and the British Jessica Roberts.
