Cycling: Matteo Sobrero has won the final time trial of the Giro d'Italia. The Italian triumphed confidently in Verona. The Australian Jai Hindley can celebrate his overall victory.
Sobrero wins ahead of Arensman & Van der Poel
The Giro d'Italia 2022 is over. The all-important time trial in Verona took place on the 21st stage of the Tour of Italy. For 17,4 kilometers, the pros had to get back on their racing bikes again. This worked best Matteo Sobrero (Bike Exchange - Jayco). With a time of 22:24, the Italian was 23 and 40 seconds faster than the two Dutchmen Thymen Arensmann (DSM) and Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix). Mauro Schmid (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) from Switzerland came in a strong sixth.
Hindley takes Rosa home
His pink jersey could no longer be snatched away Jay Hindley (Bora – hansgrohe). The Australian was seven seconds slower than his opponent in today's time trial Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers). In doing so, he wins the Giro d'Italia by a margin of 78 seconds over the Ecuadorian. The Spaniard completes the podium Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious). The mountain jersey goes to the Dutchman Koen Bouwmann (Jumbo – Visma), while the French Arnaud Demare (Groupama – FDJ) won the points classification.
