Cycling: Mathieu van der Poel clinched his second win of the season in the one-day race across Flanders. The Dutchman has been absent since the beginning of the year and was only able to return to racing in mid-March.
Van der Poel wins ahead of Benoot
He is back: Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix) won Dwars door Vlaanderen. After the Dutchman won a section of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali a few days ago and finished third at Milan – Sanremo, he can now celebrate his first win of the season in the WorldTour. Shortly before the last kilometer he countered an attack by Tiesj Benoot (Jumbo – Visma) and sat down at his rear wheel. Together they made sure that the rest of the favorites couldn't catch up. In the sprint, the Belgian had to realize that he had no chance against Mathieu van der Poel despite being in a slipstream. Benoot even applauded as he crossed the finish line. Third place went to the Brit's pursuer in the sprint thomas pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers). The German Nils Politt (Bora – hansgrohe) finished fifth after a strong performance.

Swiss Chabbey is third in the women
The 120-kilometer women's race with start and finish in Waregem decided Chiara Consonni (Valcar – Travel & Service) for themselves. The Italian was just ahead of the Belgian Julie de Wilde (Plantur – Pura) and the Swiss Elise Chabby (Canyon/SRAM Racing) prevail. Liana Lippert (DSM) finished 22nd and was therefore the best German.
