Pedersen sprints away from van der Poel

The 86th edition of Gent – Wevelgem came to an end this Sunday with a thrilling two-man sprint. After 253,1 kilometers from Ieper to Wevelgem, the Danish former world champion held on Mads pedersen (Lidl – Trek) in a two-man sprint against world champions Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Deceuninck) from the Netherlands has the upper hand. The two of them were able to break away from the peloton well before the finish and were more or less in agreement right up to the last few meters. The peloton came closer and closer towards the end of the prestigious one-day race, but ultimately had to admit defeat. Jordy Meeus (Bora – hansgrohe) completes the podium because he beat his Belgian compatriot in the sprint of the peloton Jasper Phillipsen (Alpecin – Deceuninck) – winner of Milan – Sanremo – was able to leave behind.

Lidl – Trek with a strong performance

The Lidl-Trek team showed itself to be extremely offensive early on in the race. The American team was well represented in the initial 35-man escape group. It was later jonathan milan (Lidl – Trek) as a soloist at the front. A quartet consisting of the Italian, his teammate Mads pedersen (Lidl – Trek), the world champion Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Deceuninck) and rookie Laurence Pithie (Groupama – FDJ), should ultimately form the decisive group. After the work was done, Milan fell back, as did Pithie a few kilometers later, who could no longer follow at Kemmelberg. Behind Van der Poel/Pedersen there were numerous attacks from the field as the teams did not agree in the pursuit. As well as Matteo Trentin (Tudor), as well Hugo Page (Intermarché – Wanty), Ben Turner (Ineos Grenadiers) and Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) did not make the leap to the top duo.
