MTB News: According to the organizer, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Albstadt, which will take place in four weeks, will be held in front of empty spectator stands. The currently valid Corona Ordinance of the State of Baden-Württemberg allows the World Cup to be held as a top and professional sporting event, but spectators are explicitly excluded.
From May 7th to 9th, 2021, the top elite of cross-country sports will fight for the first points for the overall classification as part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Albstadt and take the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. However, the drivers will have to do their laps without frenetically cheering onlookers. As a top and professional sports event, it is possible to hold the event, but spectators are explicitly excluded from the current Corona Ordinance of the State of Baden-Württemberg. In an official statement, Klaus Konzelmann, Lord Mayor of Albstadt and patron, explains: "Preparations have been in full swing for months and are being adapted to the constantly changing conditions... It's not easy for us to do without a fantastic audience, year after year ensures a unique atmosphere in the Bullentale and encourages the athletes to achieve top performance". But the fans don't have to do without the spectacle in the Bullentale. This year, too, spectators have the opportunity to follow the races live on RedBull TV. And of course there is still confidence for next year, because then, everyone involved hopes, the spectators will be there again in the usual way at the Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountainbike World Albstadt from May 6th to 8th, 2022, directly at the track.
