MTB News: If the measures taken by the Swiss federal government to combat the corona pandemic allow it, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup 2020 will take place in Lenzerheide from September 04th to 06th. This was announced by the Bike World Cup Lenzerheide association in a recently published report. In addition to the well-known disciplines of Cross-Country Olympic and Short Track, downhill is now also on the program.

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup 2020 in Lenzerheide may still take place. The Bike World Cup Lenzerheide association not only announced a date with the staging of the event from September 04th to 06th, 2020, but also revealed a look at the planned disciplines. The items on the program not only include the well-known Cross-Country Olympic and Short Track disciplines, but also the Downhill discipline. Actually, due to the international racing calendar, no downhill world cup would have been planned in Lenzerheide this year, but the corona pandemic turned the calendar completely upside down. With the restart of the World Cup season, the organizers at the UCI have been pushing for a downhill race to be held alongside the already planned cross-country and short-track races. However, the trial premiere in Lenzerheide will not take place. Due to the shorter lead time and higher investments, the organizers had to decide against the planned first event.
“All teams and athletes are eagerly waiting to finally be able to race again. We are doing our best to make this possible and to offer a replacement for the canceled DHI races" - Christoph Müller, OC President UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Lenzerheide
However, it is also expressly pointed out again that the implementation of the event is still dependent on the decisions of the Swiss Federal Council and the cantonal authorities. In this regard, the organizers are hoping for the details announced at the end of May 2020 regarding a relaxation of the ban on events from September 2020. Planning should then continue on the basis of this upcoming information and guidelines. Ticket sales are suspended until then.
