Cycling: Primoz Roglic has proven his dominance again. The runner-up in last year's Tour de France won the sixth stage from Paris - Nice and continues to lead the overall standings. Jonasrutsch almost succeeded in creating a surprise. The German attacked shortly before the end and bravely defended himself against the approaching peloton.
Roglic defeats the sprinters
Primois Roglic (Jumbo – Visma) extended his lead in the general classification. Wearing the yellow jersey, the Slovenian won the sixth stage in the uphill sprint ahead of the Frenchman Christophe Laporte (Cofidis) and Michael Matthews (Bike Exchange). He now has a lead of 41 seconds Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe).
Slip impresses with a powerful attack
Around 15 kilometers from the finish, only one of the former breakaway group was left Kenny Elissonde (Trek – Segafredo) ahead of the peloton. Jonas slip (Education First – Nippo) plucked up courage and caught up with the little Frenchman with an impressive attack. The German then did the lead work all by himself and shook off his companion. Although he was initially able to extend his lead, he was eventually caught 1.100 meters from the finish on the small final climb.
6 escapees on the run
The 202,4 kilometer stage from Brignoles to Biot was not easy. It was shaped by a breakaway group of six. This consisted of Anthony Perez (Cofidis), Victor Campenaerts (Qhubeka – Assos), alexey lutsenko (Astana-Premier Tech), Jonathan Hivert (B&B hotels). Julien El Fares (Education First – Nippo) and Kenny Elissonde (Trek – Segafredo). While the last-named was able to defend himself for a long time, his companions were caught earlier.
McNulty has to retire in white
Unfortunately had to leave the tour Brandon McNulty (UAE). The American crashed as the leader in the junior classification. There is also no good news for Tony Martin (Jumbo – Visma), who fell yesterday. The German has broken his elbow and will not be able to race for a few weeks.
Final stages are shortened
As announced yesterday, the last two stages from Paris to Nice cannot be held as planned. Tomorrow will not start in Nice and only 119,5 kilometers will be driven. On Sunday, the pros only have to complete 92,5 kilometers. In addition, the tour does not end in Nice, but in Levens.
