Product news: With the Omne Eternal, the Swedish manufacturer POC is presenting a bicycle helmet for the first time that has a rear light that is completely self-sufficient in terms of energy. This is made possible by Powerfoyle, a photosynthetic material that can convert any light source, natural or artificial, into electricity.
Many helmets for the urban area come from the factory with a built-in rear light for extra safety. Unfortunately, the weak point is the battery, and that has drastic consequences: As soon as the energy storage is empty, everything is pitch black. To increase the safety of cyclists on the road, the POC Omne Eternal is the first helmet in the world to have an automatic and self-sufficient light. It does not need to be charged via a cable, nor activated via an on/off switch. The energy self-sufficient bicycle helmet uses Powerfoyle for this purpose. The photosynthetic material is not only able to convert natural light into electricity, but also artificial light.
"Our long-term partnership with POC is as natural as the light we capture, and we're incredibly excited to be part of the re-launch of the Omne Eternal, which represents a new era of smart helmets to bring safety to all riders, everywhere around the world.” – Giovanni Fili, Exeger CEO
Deep tech company Exeger has spent the last decade developing the new generation of fully customizable, durable and sustainable solar cells, creating what other manufacturers thought was impossible: delivering clean, endless energy and harnessing all types of light energy . Powerfoyle also allows designers to integrate imperceptibly without compromising design and aesthetics. The POC Omne Eternal rear light is activated by simply putting the helmet on your head, so it does not have to be switched on explicitly. POC and Exeger have been working closely together since 2019. The POC Omne Eternal will be available from June 2021 for 250 euros.
