MTB News: From July 04th to 10th, 2021, the 23rd edition of the Bike Transalp will lead through the Alps in seven stages. The route from Nauders to Riva del Garda is said to be one of the wildest and most original in Transalp history. Registration for the iconic mountain bike stage race for everyone is already open. With a view to the constantly changing COVID-19 restrictions, the organizer has adjusted the cancellation rules in order to be able to offer participants more security and flexibility.
Bike Transalp 2021: Seven stages, 577 kilometers and 18.875 meters in altitude
For the upcoming edition, the route originally planned for 2020 has been revised. According to the organizer, the result is a bit wilder and shows how big the Alps are and how many paths are lost in them that have not yet been trampled. At the same time, the new route would also prove how many paths there are already in the mountains specially designed for bikers - such as in Nauders, where the Transalp leads to Italy via fine bike trails on the first day. In Livigno, an Eldorado for mountain bikers, the route runs alongside downhill bikers over freeride lines. South of the Ortles, rough paths come under the wheels that were built long before there were mountain bikes. Against the backdrop of mighty mountain giants, the Transalp meanders further over remote passes such as the Passo di Verva and adventurous crossings such as the Forcella di Montozzo. On the third day it's a completely new route through the Valtellina from Bormio to Aprica. On the program are wild mountain trails and cart tracks that have not been mollified for bikers. Even if the route is slowly approaching the mountain bike Mecca on Lake Garda, there is still a lot to discover on the following stages via Peio, Molveno and Valle del Chiese. Likewise on the route running from the rear from Lake Idro to Tremalzo. The crowning glory of the Bike Transalp 2021 then leads over the Lake Garda classic from Tremalzo over the Passo Rocchetta, Pregasina and the old Ponale road down to Riva.
More flexibility thanks to new cancellation rules
In order to be able to guarantee maximum safety for the participants in these uncertain times, there are new concepts for 2021, which are constantly being adapted to the current circumstances. Project manager Jan Leschinski: “One thing is clear: we all experience that regulations, specifications and rules for dealing with the pandemic can change at short notice. That is why we are constantly updating all measures in compliance with the legal requirements and in close coordination with the local authorities.” The starters are also offered security in advance. The new cancellation fees offer participants more flexibility. According to the organizer, registration can be canceled free of charge up to May 15th without giving reasons. Anyone who is unable to participate due to Covid-19 or the effects of the pandemic can have their entry fee refunded beyond this period. This is 899 euros and includes professional timekeeping, route protection, the rescue team, catering and luggage and bike service. The starter package also includes the finisher jersey and much more. A reduced entry fee of 23 euros applies to the U699 drivers.
