Cycling: Who will win the Velo d'Or in 2020? 13 men were nominated for the World Cyclist of the Year – and only 2 women.
Will Alaphilippe defend his title?
Since 1992, the French cycling newspaper "Vélo Magazine" has been organizing the election for world cyclist of the year. It is comparable to the Ballon d'Or in football. International sports journalists decide on the winner. Since the Velo d'Or was awarded, however, no woman has ever won it. The call for an election to be held for men and one for women has not yet been followed up. So the women probably have no chance of winning the title in 2020 either, even if two of them, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Anna van der Breggen, were nominated. The favorites to win the award are last year's winner Julian Alaphilippe, Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic and Tour winner Tadej Pogacar. However, Wout van Aert also deserved it, who not only won important races himself, but also did valuable help. Strong: The Swiss Marc Hirschi can look forward to a nomination at the age of only 22.
