Cycling: As expected, Tadej Pogacar wins the Vélo d'Or. The Slovenian Tour de France winner prevailed in front of compatriot Primoz Roglic and Belgian Wout van Aert.
Pogacar follows Roglic
Another Slovenian has won the Vélo d'Or. After Primoz Roglic was voted Cyclist of the Year last year, his compatriot Tadej Pogacar secured the title this year. The only 23-year-old won the Tour de France for the second time in a row and also two monuments with the one-day races Liège – Bastogne – Liège and the Tour of Lombardy. The bronze medal in the Olympic road race crowned an extremely strong season with 13 victories.
Alaphilippe best Frenchman
Primoz Roglic has to be content with second place this season. His third consecutive Vuelta victory and gold at the Olympics should not be enough for the accolade. Wout van Aert was voted third by the international cycling journalists. The Belgian won three stages of the Tour de France on completely different terrain. Julian Alaphilippe had no chance of winning the title. But at least he was voted the best French professional cyclist for the third time in a row.
The Velo d'or has been awarded to Tadej Pogacar today. The Slovenian finishes ahead of Roglic and Van Aert. You would grant it to all 3 of them. They had the best year of their careers, phenomenal efforts. Finishing ahead of those 2 gives Pogacar's award even more glance#cycling pic.twitter.com/j0nJcpItlJ
